Dilemma Postcards

‘‘Dilemma Postcards’’ are communicative tools that will allow practitioners to easily express, share, and resolve the dilemmas they face in their everyday practice through stories. According to the A.E.I.O.yoU model, this activity seeks to describe and create awareness of ethical dilemmas and tensions faced by practitioners (Individual, yoU), as they perceive others (O) and during interactions (I) among the practitioners, at the practitioner level.

“I want to share my story around some ethical dilemmas I faced in my workplace.”

STEPS

Recollect a situation in your everyday practice where you might have faced, might face, and/or facing these dilemmas or tensions.

Familiarize yourself with Ethical Dilemmas/Tensions cards (on the other sheet/board). (or) Create your own.

Write to share your story. Think about who you want to share this with- CEO, teammate, manager, novice practitioners, etc. You can write it anonymously per choice.

Post the card to “Whomsoever concerned”. You can also make this a team practice to position a Dilemma Post-Box and refer to what is happening in your teams to build ethical products.

  • A Software Engineer expressed...

“After performing this reflecting activity, I could describe the dilemmas as seen by me. I feel doing so, and informing people about it is a step towards a better practice. I am very happy I played a role to maybe make a positive change for someone else out there.”

  • A UX Designer said...

“I feel this toolkit provided essential communicative tools for me to reflect back on all events I had gone through, on behavioral patterns of practices, and express ethical dilemmas I have faced.”

  • A Product Manager reflected...

“There are so many topics that you don’t consider until you are reflect about them. I became aware of aspects I considered unimportant but that mattered to others. I hope after going through this process, I am able to later resolve persistent dilemmas in my team and make our process better.”
